Hands-on Supervised Counseling

What is the Practicum?

Building on the wealth of knowledge you've gained through Luther Rice Seminary, Foundations, or a comparable Network 220 program, the practicum will take you from the classroom into a virtual counseling office. This comprehensive ONLINE program equips aspiring discipleship counselors with the knowledge, skills, and spiritual foundation necessary to excel in this specialized field of Exchanged Life counseling.

The focus is hands-on, supervised counseling where you counsel through the entire exchanged-life model with a Practicum partner. Our Foundations graduates join Luther Rice Seminary students and together explore and expand each element of the Exchanged Life counseling model as we practice them in a virtual counseling environment. Program Objectives

• Facilitate personal and spiritual growth as a Christian counselor

• Gain proficiency in the Exchanged Life Christian counseling model

• Build community with Exchanged Life counselors and Luther Rice classmates

• Experience a hands-on practicum so the student is client-ready upon graduation

What Do I Need To Know?

The Practicum runs for 15 weeks during the fall and spring full semesters and meets entirely online (no travel and lodging costs). To prepare for each counseling topic, students will watch custom training videos which correlate with the Exchanged Life Center Counseling Notebook. Click HERE for the general schedule.

Students will also meet online weekly with a practicum partner and supervisor for 2.5 hours to practice their counseling skills. Students must allocate an additional 2 hours each week to give their partner the opportunity to practice counseling them. Thus, every student experiences being the counselor and the counselee. A supervisor oversees all sessions. On average, students should set aside approximately 6 hours per week for the practicum.

Because of the staff-intensive investment into each of our practicum students, the Exchanged Life Center must limit availability to the top 10 applicants each term. A minimum of 2 students is required for the Practicum with a maximum of 10 students. Practice counseling involves collaboration with other students, and we strive to match partners’ schedules.

The tuition fee is $950.

Network 220

The Exchanged Life Center is a member of Network 220 (named after Galatians 2:20), which is an international network of over 110 churches, counseling ministries, and training ministries. Network 220 establishes the framework for the Discipleship Counselor certification. Individual training organizations develop their own unique curriculum aligned with the certification requirements. Completion of the Practicum through the Exchanged Life Center (with the optional certification track for the Luther Rice students) fulfills the requirements for the Network 220 Discipleship Counseling certification. The Exchanged Life Center allows Luther Rice students to complete the optional certification track within 1 year of completing the practicum.
